Writing, Government Relations, Journalism and Live Production

I am currently the Assistant Press Secretary for Chicago Public Schools, the fourth largest school district in the United States, which serves more than 300,000 students in over 600 schools. I have been a key advisor to Interim Superintendent/CEO Dr. Macquline King and current Massachusetts Education Commissioner Pedro Martinez. I have successfully planned media events for Illinois Governor JB Pritzker, City of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson, Former Obama White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel, Commander of the United States Navy Lisa Franchetti and other recognizable politicians. I have landed stories in the Washington Post, U.S.A Today, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times and every major television station in Chicago. I’ve elevated the stories of spelling bee winners, heroic crossing guards and a student who returned to school after receiving a heart transplant.

Before working in government media relations as a public servant, I was a policy journalist. I was the political field producer for KARE 11 NBC-TV in Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Minnesota where I covered Governor Tim Walz and former Minnesota House Speaker Melissa Hortman’s legislature. I have also worked as communications outreach manager for an affordable housing and workforce development non-profit, working directly with the State of Minnesota, Hennepin County, Ramsey County, the City of Minneapolis and City of Saint Paul.

In August 2023 I wrote media AI ethics policy with America’s top communications lawyers. We spent days in Washington, DC deliberating decisions that will impact millions of Americans over the next decade. I publish national and local news stories. I’ve covered gubernatorial and U.S. Senate elections for the Associated Press. My data collection has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post and Politico. I’ve covered the sentencing of Derek Chauvin, COVID pandemic, Minnesota’s marijuana legalization, U.S. Speaker of the House bids and MLB postseason while working at NBC News affiliates.

I am the music projects manager at Beyond The Stage Magazine. I help oversee our staff of 32 global writers and photographers. I manage our website and social media channels. We’ve published 37 print issues with cover artists like Big Time Rush and Noah Cyrus. I conduct interviews and write feature articles on international musicians like Australia’s Alex Lahey, England’s Coach Party and California’s Still Woozy. I receive unreleased albums and singles from artists for content planning. I’ve gathered information about Blur, boygenius, IDLES and Sufjan Stevens for our weekly “New Music Friday” column.

I produced a live jazz and comedy show called “Riffs” featuring charting musician DeCarlo Jackson from Hippo Campus and national-touring comedian Emma Dalenberg. I produced and technical directed live events at the Basement Lab and Disco Death Records in Minneapolis. I co-created a regional music TV show called “kentcore” with my three best friends.

I’ve been on 4 Emmy and 2 Edward J. Murrow award-winning news teams. I’ve produced noon, 4 p.m. and 5 p.m. TV newscasts for KARE 11 NBC-TV in Minneapolis/Saint Paul, Minnesota, plus 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts at WFMJ 21 NBC-TV in Youngstown, Ohio. My shows have covered blizzards, the sentencings of 3 Minneapolis Police Officers convicted of murdering George Floyd, the Black Lives Matter movement, NFL division champions and more high-profile stories. I was a credentialed field producer at the first 2020 U.S. presidential debate in Cleveland. I appeared on-air as a color commentator and associate-produced college basketball on ESPN for 3 years.

Globally renowned musicians have hired me to take their photographs. Partisan Records’ artist Blondshell approached me to take portraits of her and her band backstage at the histroic Metro in Chicago. Mercury Prize 2023 nominees Jockstrap asked me to photograph their sold-out after-party at Lincoln Hall.

I captured The Strokes and Red Hot Chili Peppers U.S. Bank Stadium tour stop. Snapping Weyes Blood singing in the evening rain was the most powerful moment I’ve experienced. I exclusively recorded Nigerien psychedelic rock band Mdou Moctar on film. JPEGMAFIA jumped over me and I took a mid-flight picture. Many artists and bands request me to shoot their shows. I mainly use Sony, Tamron and Rode products.
